A Heart as Big as the World (11) - Find His True Identity

St. Eugene de Mazenod was ordained priest  on December 21, 1811. He refused all positions  in the diocese of Amiens.  He served as director for a while in St.Sulpice Seminary.  He came back to Aix  on October 1812, brought with him Brother Maurs, an ex-Trappist, as his domestic helper.  He lived in “monastic lifestyle” with Bro. Maurs in the house of his mother at Rue Papassaudi.  He kept discerning his “future” as a priest.

He wanted to consecrate himself for the poorests: the youth and the lower class in the society.

“Servants, who are you the eyes of the world?  A class of people slaves of those who pay your wages, exposed to contempt, injustice and often even ill-treatment at the hands of demanding and sometimes cruel employers who think they have bought the right to treat you with injustice with the paltry wage they pay you....  My dear brothers and sisters.. Listen to me!  You are children of God, Brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ… Know your dignity!” (Lenten Sermon, 1813)
