Jesus has So Many Ways

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Gospel Luke 7:11-17 reminds me of Funeral Mass especially if the dead is still young. In that kind of situation, for the people who experience it, especially the members of the nuclear family, it is one of the most difficult times in their life. In the Gospel we heard that the one who died was a young man. And his mother who was a widow was weeping. As we know in Jewish tradition, a son is a hope for a widow. A son can take over the responsibility of a father, to provide protection and food for the mother. So when the son died, a widow loses her protector, her guarantee in life. She will live but meaningless. Sometimes her life depends on otherís generosity.

Jesus really knew this kind of situation. That is why he was moved with pity. Furthermore he could see his mother suffering in that woman. He realized that his mother would experience the same situation, or even worse when he died. The Gospel assures us that Jesus really works in our life. He does not stay calm if we need his help, especially if he sees his motherís sufferings there.

Nowadays in many cases here in the Philippines and in the world, many women lose her husband and sons because of the war against drugs. Jesus understands the pain of those mothers and he is moved with pity. Of course it will not be like in the Gospel that he will resurrect them, make them alive. But he has many other ways to help those women, to strengthen them. The thing is do they trust in Jesus, do they let Jesus help them, do they ask Mary to pray for them.

So, we pray for them, we pray for all women who suffer, and we pray for everyone so that they may open their hearts and let God help them. Amen.
