Words of Wisdom from the Saints (2) - About Priests

Saint John Chrysostom - He who honors a priest, honors Christ, and he who insults a priest, insults Christ.

Saint Francis of Asisi - If I saw an Angel and a priest, I would bend my knee first to the priest and then to the Angel. (Later also by St. John Mary Vianney)

Saint Augustine - O wonderful dignity of the priests, in their hands, as in the womb of the Blessed Virgin, the Son of God becomes incarnate.

Saint Norbert - Oh, Priest! who are you? Not through yourself, since you are from nothing. Not for yourself, since you are mediator of men. Not to yourself, since you are the spouse of the Church.  Not yours, since you are servant of all. Not you, since you are God. Who are you then? You are nothing, and all.

Saint Alphonsus de Liguori - Priests should be holy; because God has placed them in the world as models of virtue.

Saint Gregory Nazianzen - The priest must first be cleansed before he can cleanse others; he must first himself approach God before he can lead others to Him; he must first sanctify himself before he can sanctify others; he must first be himself a light before he can illumine others.

Saint Jose Maria Escriva - The Church needs priests, and always will. Ask the Blessed Trinity for them each day, through Holy Mary. Pray that they may be cheerful, hard-working, effective; that they may be well trained: and that they may sacrifice themselves joyfully for their brothers, without feeling that they are victims.
